For online and in person coaching businesses an essential marketing strategy is producing customized content for the audience you're hoping to engage with and convert into customers.
At its core, it's about being a beneficial presence online, to become more known, liked and trusted by those people you’d like to have as customers one day.
I've recently been exploring and leveraging Chat GPT, a powerful AI platform with impressive capabilities in content idea generation.

Rather than treating AI as just any other tool, I find it more productive to interact with it like a business partner or colleague. By asking questions such as, "Can you help me brainstorm some content topic ideas for my niche?", it starts a dialogue with the AI that tends to yield better results.
Chat GPT then prompts for more information about your niche, target audience, and desired content format, to ensure its suggestions are on-point.
In my case, I let Chat GPT know that I'm a running coach, targeting middle-aged men who may have taken a hiatus from physical fitness due to various life demands. Now, as they find more time on their hands, I want to provide them with useful content to kick-start their fitness journey again.
The exact prompt I used was
“I am a running coach and my niche are middle aged males who may have been into physical fitness in their younger years but for one reason or another due to life circumstances, family and career have fallen out of fitness. This niche at their age are in danger of developing health issues if they do not regather some of their enthusiasm for fitness. The probably have more time now they are older, their family has grown up and their career has become more settled. As their priorities have changed their health and fitness is higher up in their list. The specific group of men I want to target are not necessarily motivated by general fitness and gym work and want a bigger challenge that long distance running might bring them. Let’s brainstorm some topics.”
Once this information was shared with Chat GPT, the platform provided an array of content ideas specifically for this niche.
Some of the Ideas like "Starting Your Journey to Long Distance Running After 40” and "How to Balance Running Training and Family Commitments” and "Reigniting Your Passion for Fitness Through Running” not only target the chosen demographic but also make content creation less daunting. These topics can then be catalogued in a spreadsheet, providing you with a go-to list next time you sit down to create some content. I often find I think of lots of ideas when I’m in a creative state of mind but when the time comes to sit down and write I can’t think of anything good in the moment. This is when a spreadsheet ideas is invaluable.
Now, what if you already have a rudimentary idea but need some help to develop it further or coming up with specific titles and topics related to a broader idea? That's when the AI really shines. For example, I wanted to discuss the transition to middle age, the health implications of being out of shape, and the potential benefits of running.
Here is the follow up prompt I used
“There are some good ideas there. Can we brainstorm some more specific topics about moving into middle aged and having neglected health and fitness in the past the risks and also the opportunities that this might bring a person in this position.”
The more detailed and specific information you feed the AI, the better the results. In response to my query, Chat GPT offered more precise content ideas, like "Unveiling the Health Risks of Inactivity in Middle Age: A Wake-Up Call for Men Over 40” and "From Risk to Opportunity: How Middle Age Can Be Your Golden Age for Running”. Now we have an extra 20 or so ideas we can enter into our spreadsheet. With a total of 40 rows in our spreadsheet we should have enough content to complete and share with our niche for a long time.
With this interactive brainstorming session with the AI, you can curate an impressive and targeted list of content ideas. Add them to your content spreadsheet, and you've got a solid foundation for weeks to come.
In summary, AI offers a compelling approach to brainstorming and generating content ideas. Now that we have our list of topics, the next step is to delve deeper into one of them. Keep an eye out for my next demo where we'll take one of these ideas an outline and work through writing an entire blog post.
