Cam Langsford - FounderCam here, founder and developer at Training Tilt. In 2011 I bought an Ironman training plan online from a great coach I'd been following. The coach had created an online platform where you could buy training plans and join an online community of like-minded individuals. He was smart and business savvy but the platform he'd created was cumbersome and was pulled together using a number of generic platforms and did not provide any endurance specific features.
The training plan only came in a PDF version and although was brilliantly written, the static document wasn't easy to follow. I printed it but would have to write the dates on each page to keep track of what week I was up to. I kept leaving it lying around so ended up losing it. I saved it to my phone and each evening would open it up and scroll through the pages calculating dates in my head to find the next days sessions. It was a real pain.
At the time there were a few other coaching platforms available but they all focused on the athlete and were great at analysing completed workouts. The coaching features they did provide only catered for one-on-one coaching. There was one platform that enabled coaches to sell training plans but they took almost a third of the sale price in commission. Once an athlete bought a plan they could then switch between coaches and all that intellectual properly could be seen by those other coaches. Coaching as a business was a second class citizen.
There was no platform built for forward-thinking coaches who wanted to provide multiple levels of products and services beyond one-on-one coaching.
So I created Training Tilt. A suite of tools that combines training calendars, e-commerce, and a membership site for coaches who take a more business-oriented approach to coaching. I wanted to focus on the coaching business and I wanted the coach to have control over their data in the platform including ownership of the athlete accounts and calendars. That's how it works in other industries and there is no reason why it should be any different for coaches.
Now many years later, Training Tilt is helping hundreds of coaches by providing a platform that puts the coach at the core of everything we do. We believe that coaching is an underrated profession and are working hard to help as many coaches as possible create sustainable long term businesses serving dozens or thousands of customers.
