Here's something you can do today to help sell your products and services. Its a prime opportunity for current Training Tilt clients but others not yet using the platform can also benefit from it too.
Offering something for nothing up front:
Content marketing is massive these days. An effective way to bring potential customers to your website is to offer free, interesting and valuable content to your current and potential customers.
If the content is good and relevant to the services or products you provide, it will build trust with your clients and potentially lead to more sales.
The simple strategy:
-
Choose an upcoming event or race that people are in training for. Even better, that they are thinking about training for.
Ideally you'd choose a race you have a good knowledge of, either because you've helped clients prepare for it before or you've competed in it yourself. The timing is important. If it's an event that typically takes 12 weeks of training then wait for 13 or so weeks out from the event as this is when people will be thinking about it the most.
-
Create a product or service specific to the event:
You can do this easily in Training Tilt - either building a training plan and adding it to the store or by linking it to a recurring membership plan. And did you know you can now create fixed length, one-off priced membership plans? These are awesome for clients who aren't yet ready to commit to recurring payments. You can also link membership plans to your online store so customers can either choose to download a PDF version of the plan or signup and create an account on your Training Tilt platform. You can read more about that here. Or you can use your current coaching/training services as the product you market using this strategy.
-
Write an awesome blog or article about the event:
You can use your Training Tilt site to either blog or post a public article or even create a new custom page. Here are some good content ideas:
- Good places to stay when travelling to the event
- Where to go for last minute event supplies
- How to race the course
- Pitfalls specific to the event
- Anecdotes of your past experiences at the event
- Videos of the course. Event organisers rarely do this (I don't know why because it's awesome content). If you put the time and effort into creating a video of the bike course in a triathlon for example, the content could easily go viral. Make sure you embed your logo and your web address in any videos you create.
The most important thing is to remember to include your "Call to action" and link to your product or service at the bottom of the article. eg. "If you liked this article you may also be interested in a 12 week plan to prepare for this event". Click here to get started!
-
Now share your article in social media as you normally would. But also find the official Facebook page of the event and post it there.
At this point it's important to remember you are not selling anything, all you are doing is sharing a useful article that people interested in the event might find value in.
-
Contact the event organisers and share your content and ask them to share it through their channels.
The worse that could happen is that they say no. Event organizers are super busy getting ready for the event. They should all know the value in having great content to share themselves but may not have the time or resources to create it. Don't be scared to point this out to them. Just like "hey I noticed on your website there isn't specific information to help participants find out about x or about y so I thought I'd write some info that might help, would you mind sharing it?". Who knows, they might even post it on their website or ask you to write some more in the future.
-
See what happens:
You might sell a bunch of stuff or you may sell nothing, but you've still written valuable content that is now on your site when customers visit in the future. Remember, the more content you have built up over time, the more visitors you will get to your site and the more likely you are to get new business.
-
Rinse and repeat for a bunch of events across the year!
I'd love to hear about anyone's experience with using this effective marketing tool. You can contact me any time using the chat bubble at the bottom right hand corner. Make sure you leave your email address in case I can't chat back straight away. As always you can contact me through the Training Tilt website. and if you are already a TT user, you know how to get in touch.
There you go, something for nothing.
Happy New Year to all.
